Hiking in the Wutachschlucht
---
GrandCanyon of the Black Forest
The "Wutachschlucht" is one of the last original wild stream
regions in the middle of Europe. Every biologist, geologist and hiker
is enthusiastic about its fantastic animal world, the great flora
and the terrific geology like a picture book. In the last ca 70000
years the "Wutach" has dug a deep (200 metres) and long
(30 km) valley in the south of the Black Forest. That`s a very short
space of time in the history of the earth, the "Wutachschlucht"
is thereby the youngest "canyon" of the world. The fauna
in the "Wutachschlucht" is estimated to have about 10.000(!)
different species. The riches of the flora is likewise overwhelming.This
is due the coming together of different climatic zones.
During the season guided walks free of charge are offered
through the "Wutachschlucht".

Ühlingen-Birkendorf that`s the thing for you if you`re
a man of nature or hiking. In our community itself, for example in
the primeval forest "Schwarzahalden" as well as in the whole
holidays region "Wutachschlucht" you will find a network
of charming scenic hiking paths.
If you like walking with a group and you would like
to get informations about the region and the people along the road,
then we recommend the participation in our hikes with a guide.
The tourist information has numerous hiking suggestions
in store for you and would be happy to give you ample advice.
Walking-Trips for seniors:
The union of the Black Forest, local chapter "Schlüchttal"
has put together lighter walking trips especially for groups of older
guests, but also for people, who like little more relaxed walks.The
walking time lasts 1 1½ to 2 1½ hours.You have to conquer small rises,
which make it possible also for untrained friends of walking to take
part in the walks offered with guides.
